A student who survived the Apalachee High School shooting Wednesday explained how the building will never feel safe again following the horrific massacre .

Ariel Bowling told the Today Show the illusion of safety within her school has been popped after shooting, which killed four individuals and injured nine others . "I just feel like you're basically never safe anywhere … No matter if there's cops in the school, there's still no safety at all," she said.

Ariel isn't sure she'd be able to return to school after witnessing such a "traumatic" incident, according to her mother Tabitha. The student was among those promptly evacuated out the building once suspected gunman Colt Gray, 14 , unloaded his AR-style weapon.

The four victims—students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and math teachers Christina Irimie, 53, and Richard Aspinwall, 39—were remembered Wednesday night during a vigil at the school a few hours after police hauled Gray away. Ariel lamented the death of Richard who was her math teacher. He was a "kind-hearted man' who had 'the most kindest soul ever," she said.

The student heard gunfire erupt as she was grabbing a snack from the vending machine. "We heard shots fired and we ran back into the room, we just all piled up on top of each other in the corner," Ariel said. She dialed her mother in a panic before trying to call the police.

"I heard five gunshots and then the phone went dead. I didn't know if she was hurt. She was calling 911, I was very scared," the mom explained. Ariel witnessed true horror after the lockdown was lifted, seeing the true extent of Gray's bloody onslaught toward students and teachers.

"I saw a deceased body on the floor but it was like covered up and I saw a female with a shot wound to her leg, it was just a really traumatic experience," she said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said nine victims, eight students and one teacher who was shot in the hip, were transported to the hospital. All persons are expected to survive their injuries.

Gray opened fire around 10:23 a.m. and almost instantly surrendered to police when he was caught. He is due in court Friday and will eventually be prosecuted as an adult. He used an AR-style weapon to carry out the shooting. Authorities are trying to determine how he came in possession of the weapon

In 2023, FBI officials interviewed Gray and his father Corey about threatening posts the suspected gunman made about shooting up a school. Corey admitted to owning several guns but assured officials that his son had no way to gain access.

Sad to say, but schools must have a controlled, security entry point..
