The family of a groom and his cousin whose lives were tragically cut short by a wrong-way driver are seeking justice as they grieve.

On Aug. 24, Kirk Walker, 38, and his cousin, Robert "Todd" McLaurin, 40, were on their way back from celebrating the upcoming nuptials when they were killed in a car crash on the Henry Hudson Parkway in New York City, family and the NYPD said. The two were taken to separate New York City area hospitals where they were both pronounced dead .

Police are still searching for the driver of the pickup truck that caused the horrifying accident. Police were able to apprehend the passenger in the car, but driver remains on the loose.

Meanwhile a heartbroken family is coming together in what should of been a celebratory time as they await justice. They launched a GoFundMe fundraiser for Walker's heartbroken widow, Shauntea Weaver, that as of Thursday, Sept. 5, has raised more than $31,900.

"A mere 10 hours from his rehearsal, family gathered outside New York-Presbyterian to be confronted with the unimaginable - both Kirk and Todd were no longer with us physically and would now join us in spirit... and that the cowards responsible were on the run. In the blink of an eye, everything changed," the campaign reads.

Weaver is pleading with anyone who knows something to speak up. "I want them to understand exactly the two lives that they ended because of reckless stupidity," she said. "And then to flee the scene after you do something like that is just inhumane."

NYC Eric Mayor Adams has even pledged money out of his own pocket to find the person responsible for the crash, ABC7 reported. "We are going to find the person involved," Adams said.

"I'm asking New Yorkers if you know any information that can lead to apprehending this person who appears to have left the scene. I'm going to put up $1,000 of my own personal money to call for the arrest and conviction of this person," he added. Walker was described by family as a "loving and devoted husband, father of three, son, brother, and friend who has never met a stranger to cross his path was to be forever changed by his charm, intellect, tenacity…. his all-encompassing LOVE."

His cousin McLaurin, who traveled from North Carolina to celebrate his "best friend's" big day, was remembered as "a man that had such a presence you felt his energy before he entered the room, and it made you smile."

"If there is any comfort to be had it's that they were not alone and they were surrounded by love and pure joy just a few moments before," the family said.
