The View's Whoopi Goldberg slams ICE for allowing Anna Delvey on Dancing with the Stars

Whoopi Goldberg expressed her thoughts on a specific contestant on Dancing With The Stars .

On the Thursday, September 5 episode of The View , Whoopi and her co-hosts spoke about the new season of Dancing with the Stars, specifically Anna Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorkin. Good Morning America announced the celebrities that will be competing on season 33 set to premiere on Tuesday, September 17 on ABC .

Anna was partnered with newcomer pro Ezra Sos . Many know Anna as the aspiring heiress who was charged in 2017 for defrauding major financial institutions, banks, hotels and friends of over $250,000 by pretending to be the wealthy daughter of a German oil tycoon. Netflix made a series inspired by Anna's story.

Anna was released from prison in 2021 after serving four years and has since been on house arrest.

Because the show is filmed in Los Angeles, Anna was given permission from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) to be on the show and to travel within a 70-mile radius of her residence. She can also travel anywhere within New York City's five boroughs under her house arrest conditions. She will be performing with an ankle monitor on.

Whoopi was not impressed with how ICE handled the situation and was quite disappointed with the dance show. She said: "I think back to all the families who’ve had family members arrested by ICE, who have gone to the courts to get their dad or their mother or their brother back." She continued: "And this woman, they gave her permission to go do this. Now, should I think there’s a reason. Is there a two-tiered system here with ICE?"

Sunny wondered what were the "consequences" of Anna's crimes. She poked fun at the "federa bejeweled ankle monitor" that Anna told The Hollywood Reporter that Ezra will be designing. Sara brought up the fact that "we have a felon running for president" and no one should be surprised at the show's judgement. Joy poked fun at the idea for the show to have a spinoff called "Dancing with the Felons" and show it would be "a hit."
