Yet, the plot thickened when the woman's brother and his wife neither linked to Ireland unexpectedly chose the same name, Oisin Miguel, for their son who arrived two months ahead of hers. Accepting the situation, she expressed on Reddit: "My brother and his wife have as much right to name their child whatever they want. I do not own my name. I have no right to dictate to my brother what he names his kid," the OP asserted, reports Dublin Live .
When she gave birth, she stuck with her intention to name her son Oisin Daniel, despite knowing her nephew had already been given the same name. But her sister-in-law was less than thrilled about the shared moniker, demanding a name switch.
"She has flipped out that two cousins will have the same name. She is nuts because our family is Hispanic, and half of our cousins are named Carlos or Camilla," the woman vented on an online forum. In a turn of events, it came to light that her own mother was thrown off by her brother's choice in baby names, expecting a tribute to their late father instead.
"My husband's family thinks the whole thing is hilarious, my family thinks my sister in-law is a weirdo, and she thinks I'm an a****** for copying her," the woman detailed in her post. It has since received massive online support, with 21,000 upvotes and 2,000 comments.
Redditors have been applauding her composure amidst the drama.
"OP is definitely handling this right way. I was expecting her to say she flipped out on SIL/bro for "stealing" her name (which how these posts usually go) but instead...just cool as a cucumber, stuck with her plan... and now SIL is the one flipping out," pointed out one user, while another added, "she's got the gold standard of coolness."
