Young and full of excitement, Brittanee Drexel set out for a spring break adventure in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2009, but tragically, the 17-year-old disappeared into thin air while moving between hotels , and her story remained a mystery for years - until now.

It wasn't until a prison inmate tipped off authorities seven years later that they discovered the horrible truth: Raymond Moody kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and murdered Brittanee. In 2022, he admitted his heinous acts in court and received life imprisonment for his crimes.

Moody, a registered sex offender, reflected on his actions, saying, "I was a monster," during his sentencing on October 19, reports the Express US .

"I was a monster then and I was a monster when I took Brittanee Drexel's life. I don't have the words to express how horrible I feel and I've felt ever since that day. I'm very sorry," were Moody's remorseful words.

For the murder of Brittanee, the judge handed Moody a life sentence plus two additional 30-year terms for kidnapping and sexual misconduct charges.

Brittanee's loved ones, including her bereaved mother Dawn Pleckan, listened as heart-wrenching victim impact statements were read during the sentencing.

Chad Drexel, Brittanee's adoptive father, branded Moody a "perverted, sick monster" and expressed his wish for him to "suffer in prison for the rest of your useless life," as he recalled his relentless search for the girl.

Brittanee's mother tearfully implored the judge to sentence Moody to the "fullest extent of the law," expressing her hope that the convict would endure suffering in prison due to the havoc he has wreaked on her family and others.

"You are a disgrace to your parents, your own children, your family, and any friends you have left," Pleckan told Moody.

Dawn, Brittanee Drexel's mother, revealed she wears a necklace containing her ashes and picture as a tribute to her life.

Brittanee, a Chili, New York high school student, was last seen on April 25, 2009 on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

According to CNN, despite her mother's objections, she reportedly joined a group of friends who were heading to the popular spring break destination for high school and college students.

The final surveillance footage of Brittanee showed her exiting a hotel shortly before 9 a.m. on April 25, dressed in a white and green tank top, black shorts, and white flip-flops. She was never heard from again.

Investigators previously stated they reevaluated cell phone data and surveillance footage, and were able to pinpoint the last known signal location of Drexel's cell phone the day after she vanished.

Authorities, after a lengthy investigation, discovered Brittanee's remains hidden in the woods of Georgetown County, South Carolina, this past May.

Described as a "bright and spirited young woman with a heart of gold," Brittanee was fondly remembered for her love of soccer and dreams of becoming a model or nurse, her obituary reads.
