Jeopardy! fans cry it was 'too good to be true' as show makes major change

Sony is still dragging their feet when it comes to finding a new home for Jeopardy! streaming and fans are not happy.

Fans are out of luck as unlimited access to the beloved game show's past episodes has been cut off. The dedicated 24/7 channels for the show on streaming service Pluto have ceased operations. In 2022, Sony Pictures Television struck a two-year licensing agreement with Pluto to air the archived Jeopardy! episodes.

The tragic change left fans begging for a fix and, in August 2024, the official Jeopardy! social media team reassured everyone it was coming. Their Instagram account posted a message saying, "Hang in there, baby." Accompanied by a video showcasing comments from fans pleading for the show's return to streaming, they added: "We hear you. Stay tuned for the latest Jeopardy! streaming news."

Weeks later, though, and no announcement on a new plan of action was made. A fan on Reddit explained that a replacement has yet to be tapped, but Hulu did home the Celebrity and Masters tournaments. For a while, there was speculation that partnership might grow to include the old rerun episodes, but no official word yet. "Damn, was too good to be true," said another fan in response.

Pluto, which is a complimentary ad-supported streaming and on-demand television service, falls under the ownership of Paramount. The deal kicked off on August 1, 2022, and has now reached its two-year term. Without any prior notice, the shows vanished from the platform, leaving fans staring at a black screen accompanied by a message stating the unavailability of the shows.

While fans wait for more details, they're left with plenty of questions. One on Reddit wrote: "So my personal interpretation of that is: they either have an option coming that they aren't able to promote yet or they are working on an option. So: streaming of the show will return in some form, but we in the public don't yet know when, don't yet know where, and don't yet know what form it will take (will it be similar to what was on Pluto? will it include more episodes/seasons? will it contain any shows more recent than Alex's hosting tenure? we don't know the answers to any of those questions)"

"Really the only thing we’ve got right now are the TuneIn channels unless those got yanked without warning too," said another fan. The wait continues.
