Prince Harry just days away from inheriting $10.5million thanks to Royal Family he shunned

Prince Harry is reportedly in line to receive a hefty £8million ($10.5million) inheritance from his late great-grandmother when he turns 40 .

The Duke of Sussex's milestone birthday falls on September 15, and it's believed that his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, began amassing a substantial trust fund for him when he was just 10 years old. The Queen Mother, who was 94 at the time, set aside a tax-free £19million ($25million) for her great-grandchildren.

The inheritances were split into two parts one portion to be given to Princes William and Harry when they turned 21, and another on their 40th birthdays. A former palace aide said: "There was a trust fund set up at the time. It was a way in which the Queen Mother could set aside money for when her great-grandchildren were older and a way of passing a slice of her estate down in a tax-efficient way.

Speaking to The Times , they added: "It was a way in which some of her estate could be ring-fenced for them." Sources have suggested that Harry may have received more from the inheritance than his older brother William, 42.

This is due to the assumption that William would inherit a larger fortune from the Duchy of Cornwall as the future heir to the throne. Upon becoming Prince of Wales after King Charles' coronation, William also became Duke of Cornwall, and is estimated to have inherited a £23.6 million ($31million) fortune from the estate.

Following the death of the Queen Mother in 2002 at the grand age of 101, Buckingham Palace released a statement declaring: "Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother has bequeathed her entire estate (which mainly comprises the contents of her houses) to The Queen."

Further details shared by the Palace included: "In her will, she asked The Queen to make certain bequests to members of her staff, and these bequests will be subject to inheritance tax in the normal way."

They also announced: "The Queen has decided that the most important of Queen Elizabeth's pictures and works of art should be transferred to the Royal Collection."
