Shedeur Sanders slammed over 'worst-ever' moment in Colorado loss

Shedeur Sanders threw a terrible interception that cost Colorado dear in their defeat against Nebraska on Saturday.

The Colorado Buffaloes were dismantled by the Nebraska Cornhuskers with the hosts taking a 28-0 lead at the end of the second quarter, with Colorado only able to salvage some consolation in the 28-10 loss in week one.

Colorado’s defeat saw college football fans slam quarterback Sanders ’ performance, including one specific moment when he gifted Nebraska a touchdown which extended their lead to 14-0 in the first quarter. The 22-year-old was playing out of Colorado’s end zone after the snap from the two-yard line.

The Texan looked stumped as a lack of options saw him stall on the ball for too long, inviting pressure from the Nebraska offensive. Sanders appeared to panic under the pressure and launched a hopeful pass towards receiver Drelon Miller who was outside the numbers.

But Cornhuskers cornerback Tommi Hill reacted quickest and darted past Hill to intercept the pass five yards from the end zone with no players in front of him to prevent him strolling in to score. Meanwhile, Sanders stood motionless as he watched Hill grab his pass and double Nebraska’s lead.

Sanders’ play saw him criticised on social media for his woeful pass. One user wrote: "That's the worst throw I’ve seen in a long time, I’m starting to think Shedeur Sanders is not that guy.” With another concluding: “Awful interception for Shedeur. Poor decision-making in that moment."

“This legitimately might be the worst throw I’ve ever seen lol,” a third account wrote. While another was left bemused considering “people are saying he's a top 5 draft pick.” While a further comment said: “That is a horrible decision”.

Sanders was later slammed for his failure to take accountability for his sloppy play as he was sacked six times, appearing to throw shade at his offensive line pointing that Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola had a clean pocket. “How many touched did Raiola get touched?" He asked. “Of course whenever you’re able to run the ball consistently then that opens up the path. But you’ve got to understand what your team is good at.

“So I was like, ‘why would we keep running the ball if we get out there and we’re in a situation where it’s a must get and we don’t get it’,” he said. “If we’re going to go down, I’d rather go down swinging. Honestly because I know I could throw the best play.”

Sanders left the field with two minutes to play and headed straight down the tunnel, opting not to watch backup quarterback Ryan Staub’s brief cameo. Sanders completed just 23 of his 38 pass attempts for 244 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
