Mark Hamill is also mourning the passing of the legendary James Earl Jones.

The sad news of the revered actor's death was announced today. He was 93 years old. His cause of death has not been disclosed. James had an illustrious acting career that spanned many mediums from TV to stage. He was most known for his roles as the voice of Mustafa in Lion King and Darth Vader from Stars Wars.

Both James and Mark made their marks in the original Star Wars trilogy in the late 70s to early 80s. The originals films were created and directed by George Lucas. They become such a big blockbuster franchise that has spawn many sequels, TV shows (animated and live actions) and video games.

When George first cast Darth Vader, British actor David Prowse was the guy inside the notable black suit with his mountainous frame but the filmmaker knew he wanted somebody else to voice the actor.

In a past interview with the American Film Institute, the James shared how he "lucked out" and become the distinguishable voice: "George thought he wanted a – pardon the expression – darker voice."

The veteran actor was hired and recorded all his lines in a matter of a few hours and was not listed in the first film's credits. He was paid $7,000 which he thought "was good money.” He was also uncredited for the second film in the trilogy The Empire Strikes Back (1980) at his request since he felt his role was two small in both films. He would be credited for the third film Return of the Jedi (1983) and first film's 1997 "Special Edition" re-release. Star Wars initially came out in 1977.

The Field of Dreams star told AFI, how him and George has disagreements about the way he should voice Vader.

"I wanted to make Darth Vader more interesting, more subtle, more psychologically oriented," James explained. "He (Lucas) said, ‘No, no … you’ve got to keep his voice on a very narrow band of inflection, ‘cause he ain’t human."

Regardless of the disagreements, the voice worked and has been cemented in pop culture history especially in the culminating fight between Vader and Luke in The Empire Strikes Back. James utters a plot twist and famous well quoted line all at once: “No, I am your father!"

First Sean Connery, now JEJ. 😢 Another voice I would've loved to take directions from. They need to create a voice choice for maps and navigation before all the men that women are willing to listen to all die.
