Jeopardy! is back for season 41 - and fans are rejoicing

The trivia TV show came back for the premiere of the new season on September 9. The show opened with one day champion Rachel Bradley facing off again Amanda White, a strategy consultant from Seattle, Washington and Adam Reiffen, a Naval officer from San Diego, California. The ESL instructor had an winnings of $23,567 and viewers will see if she'll make it another day or if contestant Amanda or Adam will.

As the show went on Adam was talking the lead but Rachel was not far behind but Rachel was in the third spot and in the red. She had answered a question in the "Mom and Dad category" in a way that had fans laughing and rooting for her.

The strategy consultant picked a clue in that category for $600 that read: "This Paternal Name For A Rich Benefactor Comes From 'Little Orphan Annie.'" Amanda looked hesitant to say what she seemed to be pondering but as time was dwindling, she finally answered with a small sort of amused smile. She answered: "What is a Sugar Daddy." The correct answer which Rachel got right was "Daddy Warbucks."

Fans took to social media tickled by Amanda's response as they made jokes and also rooted for her. One fan on X formerly Twitter said: "I'm rooting for Amanda because she likes sugar daddies." A second fan wrote: Sugar daddy in little orphan Annie? I thought of Annie to be more wholesome." On a Jeopardy subreddit for today's episode, a fan shared that sentiment: "If Little Orphan Annie had a sugar daddy, that would be a very different musical." Another said: "I’m already campaigning for an Amanda Second Chance appearance thanks to her iconic Sugar Daddy response and serial killer anecdote."

Little Orphan Annie was originally a daily comic strip in America created by Harold Gray and syndicated by the Tribune Media Services. It followed the adventures of Annie, her dog Sandy and her benefactor Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks. He eventually adopts Annie. The comic strip become adapted for Broadway as Annie In 1977. Then three movies adaptions followed of the broadway production: Annie (1982), Annie (1999, a made-for-television film) and Annie (2014).

Amanda didn't win Jeopardy! in the end nor did Rachel become a second-day champion. Adam, who was consistently in the lead throughout the game, won with a total of $16,001. He guessed Madeline Albright for the Final Jeopardy! category of Famous Women. He is the first champion of Season 41.
