Tyreek Hill shares shooting theory after 'disgusting' arrest bodycam footage released

Tyreek Hill believes he could have "got shot" during his run-in with police ahead of the Miami Dolphins ’ 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars .

On Sunday, Hill was pulled over and detained by Miami-Dade Police outside of Hard Rock Stadium. Newly released bodycam footage has sparked an outcry over the incident, including the Miami Dolphins issuing a statement demanding "swift and strong action" over the "heartbreaking" and "despicable" footage involving its players.

The footage shows several officers approaching Hill's car, but tensions rise when he attempts to roll up his window. After asking Hill several times to keep his window down, one officer decided to remove the receiver from the vehicle.

Another official promptly came over and opened the door. Hill is then pulled out of the vehicle by the back of his neck before the officer drags him to the ground and places him in handcuffs.

Moments later, Hill was escorted to the sidewalk and asked to sit down but momentarily refused , revealing that he recently underwent surgery on his knee. The same officer that pulled him out of the car subsequently wrapped an arm around him and forcefully took him down, adding: “Did you have surgery on your ears when we told you to put your window down?”

Appearing on CNN on Monday night, Hill claimed he could have "got shot" during the ordeal. He implied his status may have played a part in his survival as he shared his theory on how different things could have been.

“The reality of it is the truth: if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill, worst-case scenario, we would have had a different article,” Hill said on CNN.

“‘Tyreek Hill got shot in front of Hard Rock Stadium’… that’s worst-case scenario, or Tyreek Hill put in handcuffs and taken in and booked. But it’s crazy that me and my family had to go through this.”

Hill’s Dolphins teamamte Jalen Ramsey fumed online once the footage was released, taking to X to post: “FIRE EM IMMEDIATELY! Mfs like them can’t have no type of power, they gotta go!”

Former quarterback Robert Griffin III also posted his take on the body cam footage. He shared the video and wrote: “Here is the body cam footage from Tyreek Hill’s detainment before the Miami Dolphins game. This level of aggression and demeaning behavior was not necessary. This is an excessive overuse of power.”

Analyst Emmanuel Acho also took aim at the officers involved. He posted a video speaking about the incident, along with a caption which read: “The Tyreek Hill body cam footage of his detainment has been released, and those police officers are disgusting. If the footage doesn’t make you livid, you need to check your pulse.”

In the video, Acho said: “Disgusting. The body cam footage of Tyreek Hill, Dolphins receiver, being detained has been released, and it is disgusting. Here’s a few things I noticed: number one, Tyreek Hill never tried to use his celebrity status to try to get out of the situation. He never said, ‘I got a $140 million contract’. He simply tried to appeal to the officers with his humanity, and the officer responded, ‘yeah stop your crying’.

“Absolutely disgusting. Tyreek Hill never said he’s heading to the Dolphins game where thousands of people are going to watch him play. No, he simply tried to appeal to the officers saying, ‘Hey, I had an operation done on my knee recently. give me a second to take a seat on the curb’. Absolutely disgusting.

“I think about how absolute power corrupts absolutely, and those police officers on the scene have absolute power and thus they are corrupt. They cannot see past their pride, they couldn’t see the human that they were dealing with and instead… I don’t know what they saw. Maybe they saw dirt, because they treated him as such. Absolutely disgusting.

“We have to do something about it, but in this moment I’m thankful that Tyreek Hill, his teammate Calais Campbell who showed up on the scene, and his teammate Jonnu Smith who showed up on the scene- I’m simply grateful that they are here to talk about it. Shameful.”

Just needed to comply to their commands. I'm sure you heard them, but I haven't seen the police video. The 2nd police officer was not very patient with you, but your a tough guy.

No one gets shot unless they don’t cooperate. They choose the entire outcome.
