Supercomputer predicts Wrexham rise to continue as Ryan Reynolds relishes unbeaten start

A supercomputer has predicted that Wrexham could be heading for third consecutive promotion - as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's high-flying outfit made an unbeaten start to the new season.

The Red Dragons have been transformed both on and off the field since the Hollywood pair assumed the reins as co-chairmen in November 2020. After another successful campaign last term - as they finished as runners-up in League Two - they are competing in the third tier for a first time in two decades.

Their astonishing rise has showed no sign of faltering in the early weeks of the 2024-25 season either as they sit top of the division after five games played. After four victories and one draw in their opening fixtures, the BonusCodeBets supercomputer has forecast that Phil Parkinson's men will be celebrating again in May.

After running a simulation of the season 1,000 times, the technology has predicted that the Welsh side will win the league this year. They are forecast to end the campaign on 94 points, separating them from Huddersfield Town on 91 points - who are forecast to occupy the final automatic promotion spot.

Having parted with a staggering $26 million in transfer fees this summer alone, free-spending Birmingham City may have to make do with a playoffs slot this term. According to the supercomputer, the Blues - who are co-owned by NFL great Tom Brady - will finish the season in third place on 87 points.

After their 3-0 win over local rivals Shrewsbury Town at the Racecourse Ground in their most recent outing, Wrexham manager Parkinson is eager to take the pressure off his players for now. Handling expectations, he asserted: "Five games in and I know it doesn’t count for a great deal but equally I think we’ve got to be pleased with the work so far this season.

"Having the ability to handle being at the top and that extra kind of expectancy it creates, of course we’ve been there. The run with Notts County in the National League, every game was full on and you had to win every game and had to perform at your best to keep winning.

Ultimately, the head coach believes that the experience within the Dragons ranks means that his players are well-versed in blocking out any outside noise. He continued: "So yes, we’ve got a group who are used to living with that and hopefully we’ll continue to thrive under that bit of added pressure."

Assessing the option at his disposal after the summer, he added: "At the moment we will roll with what we have got. We have got some good players who haven't figured much yet so we don't want to bring someone in for the sake of it.

"We have had young Josh Adam in from Manchester City on trial. He is a player we would like to keep because he has got real talent but in terms of a senior player coming in at the moment, we have got enough of those fighting for places."
