Two Delta aircraft reportedly crashed into each other while on the runway on Tuesday. The incident took place at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia , the country's busiest airport.

According to officials, the crash took place around 10am on Tuesday when a Tokyo -bound flight DL295 clipped the tail of Louisiana -bound flight DL5526 as it was taxiing for takeoff.

Dramatic photos, which were posted on X , show the back tail of the much smaller plane lying at a 90-degree angle while others showed the tail completely severed from the plane's body. According to the airline, there were 56 people aboard the smaller plane while another 221 were on the Tokyo flight.

Delta later issued a statement saying that none of the 277 passengers were injured. "There have been no reported injuries at this time and customers are being transported back to the terminal where they will be re-accommodated on alternate flights," Delta said in a statement to The Mirror US.

"At this time, no additional operational adjustments are expected." According to Delta, they were cooperating "with the NTSB and other authorities on this incident."

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which serves as the operational hub for Delta, said that the incident only caused "minimal impact" to its operations.

"At approximately 10:07 this morning two aircraft made contact at the intersection of taxiways E and H on the north airfield," the airline said in an additional statement. "At this time, no injuries are reported. Passengers from one of the aircraft are being bussed from the incident to the concourses."

The statement concluded with: "The second aircraft taxied under its own power to a concourse where passengers will deplane at their gate. There is minimal impact to airport operations."

One passenger, who turned out to be a meteorologist for ABC affiliate WFTS-TVl posted about the incident. "Well that was terrifying," Jason Adams wrote:

. "Taxiing out for the flight from Atlanta to Louisiana and another plane appears to have clipped the back of our plane. Very jarring, metal scraping sounds then loud bangs."

According to the post: "We’re fine. No fire or smoke. Awaiting @Delta instructions." In addition to the post, Adams posted a few photos from the tarmac.

Delta has faced increased scrutiny after two workers were killed at the Georgia airport when a tire exploded and injured several others. WSB-TV reported that numerous fire units and police vehicles were seen racing toward the maintenance hangar at the airport shortly after 5am.

"The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility. We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time," the airline said in a statement.

The statement continued, "The Delta family is grateful for the quick action of first responders and medical teams on site. We are now working with local authorities and conducting a full investigation to determine what happened."

According to sources, the tire exploded when it was being removed from a plane, though the cause is still being investigated.
