Voice actor Peter Renaday, known and loved for his role as Master Splinter in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has died at the age of 89 years old.

Peter Renaday, best known for his role as Master Splinter on the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show, was found dead at his home in Burbank, California, on Sunday. The actor was reportedly discovered during a welfare check by police after they received a call, according to TMZ .

Peter's niece, Mindy Zachary, told the news outlet that his cause of death is unclear but mentioned that his air conditioning had been broken and with the recent heatwave, temperatures inside his residence likely rose into the 90s. Despite his official cause of death being unknown, it is believed that Peter died of natural causes and his death is not being treated as a medical examiner case.

Peter's heartbreaking passing comes as he was famously known for lending his voice to the character of Splinter on the animated series from 1987 to 1996. He is also recognized for voicing the character Vernon Fenwick on the same show. Outside of the hit cartoon series, Peter had a thriving career in the acting industry and was featured in many television shows, movies, and video games over the years.

As for his personal life, Peter was happily married to his wife Florence "Flo" Daniel since 1979 and up until her death on February 18, 2011. His wife was an employee at Disney World and worked as a secretary in the music department for 35 years.
