Caitlin Clark has made Alyssa Thomas look foolish after DiJonai Carrington prediction

Caitlin Clark continues to break records and prove to all around the WNBA that she is not just the Rookie of the Year , but also one of the best players in the entire league .

Clark was perhaps best known in college for her incredible range and ability to make outrageous shots look commonplace. However, as the primary ball handler for Iowa, her passing and knack for getting the ball to her teammates, regardless of how tight a space might look to outsiders, caught the attention of those around the league, averaging 8.2 assists per game as a Hawkeye.

One of those who were enthralled by Clark's passing ability was Connecticut Sun guard Dijonai Carrington. Before Clark was drafted No. 1 over by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft , Carrington predicted how the young guard could reach heights not seen before.

"Caitlin might lead the league [in] assists this year," Carrington posted at the time , seemingly as a joke. In response, her Sun teammate, Alyssa Thomas, couldn't help but chime in, adding: "Don't play with me Nai."

At the time, many fans claimed Clark would lead the league in turnovers, 3-pointers made or offensive fouls. Now, it appears Carrington was right in her prediction, much to the expense of her Sun teammate. What's more, the gap between Clark and Thomas, who happens to be second on the list, is large.

As of writing , Clark has 306 assists, with the Fever having four more games left in the season, averaging 8.5 assists per game. It's also worth noting Clark broke the WNBA record for assists in a single game, dishing out 19 in the Fever's 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings.

On the other hand, Thomas has 270 assists - dishing out 7.7 per game - though the Sun have five games remaining on their schedule. That said, the only way for Thomas to catch up to Clark is if the Fever rookie sits out the rest of the season and the 32-year-old averages about eight assists the rest of the way.

Considering how durable Clark has been this season, leading all rookies in minutes played at 35.8 per game, it is difficult to envision a scenario in which Thomas overtakes Clark. Clark also is the fastest player to reach 300 career assists in league history , doing so in just 36 games.

Clark's latest feat also calls to mind how Chicago Sky star Chennedy Carter criticized the 22-year-old's playstyle. Earlier in the 2024 season, Carter told reporters how she didn't want to answer any questions about Clark, adding on the social media platform Threads: "Besides three-point shooting, what does she bring to the table, man?"

So impressive has Clark's assists prowess been that even pundit Skip Bayless couldn't help but compare her to LeBron James. On the same night Clark set the record for most 3-pointers made by a rookie in a single season, Bayless posted on social media how the rookie reminded him of the Los Angeles Lakers star.

"Caitlin Clark pulled off a couple of passes in the first quarter that made me say, 'Wow.' LeBronesque," Bayless posted on X . Overall, Clark was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the third straight week .

From September 2 to September 8, Clark averaged 25.0 points, 10,0 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game. For reference, Clark is averaging 24.7 points, 9.3 assists and 5.9 rebounds per game in the three straight weeks she's won Player of the Week .
