NFL fans convinced they have found Deshaun Watson 'burner account'

NFL fans are convinced they have discovered Deshaun Watson ’s burner account after finding a Twitter user dedicated to defending the Cleveland Browns quarterback.

On Sunday, Watson endured a difficult outing as he struggled in the face of the Dallas Cowboys . Hosting the Cowboys at Huntington Bank Field, Watson completed just 24 of 45 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown to go with a pair of interceptions in the 33-17 loss.

Fans have fumed since Watson’s performance, but eagle-eyed fans spotted one fan consistently defended the former Houston Texans quarterback. The X user Leroy Bickerstaff was created in September 2024, is without an image, and is dedicated to defending Watson’s honor.

As a result, some fans aren’t buying it. Many fans believe the account, which follows nobody with minimal tweets, is actually Watson wielding a burner.

The curious Bickerstaff account has just one stand-alone tweet, which was sent out during Monday Night Football when the San Francisco 49ers crushed the New York Jets . The tweet read: “If 4 had a tackle like Trent Williams he’d be able to show his greatness… 4 can’t succeed when he’s got no chance back there.”

If the account does belong to Watson, it seems the quarterback is simply looking to provide excuses for his poor performance in Week 1. The account also replied to plenty of critical tweets, pointing to the porous offensive line, misguided playcalling, and offensive penalties “holding 4 back from his greatness”.

Bickerstaff replied to several tweets, praising those who aren't ready to give up on Watson while aiming at those who think the quarterback was to blame against the Cowboys. After ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky claimed the Browns offense cannot function with Watson, Bickerstaff said: “Come on man there’s more to life than football people go thru ---- off the field… but after one game we gon let the dude that ran thru the back of the endzone tell us 4 not the answer man come on.”

Bickerstaff also shared videos from teammates like Jerome Ford who are defending Wastson’s leadership qualities and mentality. If this is the work of Watson, he is looking to give himself a positive spin two days after struggling at home to Dallas.

Watson arrived in Cleveland following a mega deal with the Houston Texan, which is considered among the worst in NFL history. The 28-year-old landed an unprecedented fully-guaranteed five-year deal worth $230m, which is why the Browns will be frustrated by the lack of production compared to his salary.

Watson and the 0-1 Browns face the 0-1 Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field on Sunday, Sept. 15.
