Frankie Beverly has died at the age of 77 .

The singer's cause of death is yet to be revealed, but his death has been confirmed by his family in a statement shared on Instagram . "Grieving the loss of a loved one is a deeply personal and emotional experience," they said.

The statement continued : "During this time, as we are navigating feelings of sorrow, reflection, and remembrance we kindly ask for privacy and understanding, allowing us the space to grieve in our own way."

They asked fans to show "respect for our need for solitude is appreciated as we honor the memory of our beloved Howard Stanley Beverly known to the world as Frankie Beverly." Frankie's family also reflected on his legacy as they said: "He lived his life with pure soul as one would say, and for us, no one did it better.

"He lived for his music, family and friends. Love one another as he would want that for us all." Tributes have been pouring in from fans for the Maze singer.

"His songs will continue to be the soundtrack to countless celebrations and cookouts, immortalizing him in the hearts of fans everywhere..." one person said. Another fan posted: "God Bless! his Love Ones! He will forever live on in our hearts and household, through All the Good Music he gave us!"

"I was raised on Frankie Beverly. My heart is shattered," a third fan said. Someone else added: "Rest in peace, have brought so much joy to my life."

Frankie had a long career, with his band Maze being formed in 1970 under the name Raw Soul. He played his final show with the group earlier this year.

Maze rocketed to fame after performing with Marvin Gaye in 1976. They released their debut album, Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, a year later. Their last studio album, Back To Basics, was released in 1993 but they continued to tour each year.

Frankie started his farewell tour earlier this year, playing five dates across America. The tour began in Atlanta before heading to Alabama, Chicago, and Houston. Frankie played his final show in Los Angeles on May 22.

After announcing the farewell tour, Frankie told Billboard: "I want to share with my lifelong fans and associates that I'll be going out on the road one last time, then retire. Thank you so much for the support given to me for over 50 years as I pass on the lead vocalist torch to Tony Lindsay. The band will continue on as Maze Honoring Frankie Beverly. It's been a great ride through the decades. Let the music of my legacy continue."
