A Maryland man says that his craving for potato wedges led him to purchase a lottery ticket worth $50,000 on a scratch-off lottery ticket.

The man told lottery officials that he had a craving for Royal Farms potato wedges and went to his local store to purchase a bag. The man stated that he was munching on the delicious snack when he felt the urge to buy some lottery tickets, reports UPI .

According to the man, he had a $20 bill and decided to purchase a few tickets. "I had a $20 bill, so I decided on a Ravens X10 ticket and Money Rush game," the player said. That's when something about the Money Rush game caught the man's eye.

"I looked at it, but I wasn't paying full attention to it," he said. "Then, I thought, 'What did I just see?' and I looked at it a second time." To confirm his suspicions, the man handed the ticket to the clerk who confirmed that he had won $50,000.

According to the clerk, the dollar amount was so high, that the clerk could not cash the man out. According to the winner, he plans on using his winnings to pay off some bills, buy a new vehicle and save some for retirement.

Lottery rules dictate that Maryland will take a 9% tax on the winnings in addition to the 24% tax the government is supposed to take. After taxes, the man would walk away with a staggering $33,525.00.

The man's big win comes as one lucky player revealed their strategy for playing the game. David Taylor, a resident of Ohio , recently came into a decent amount of cash after he won the Ohio Lottery’ s Lucky for Life drawing on Aug. 24.

Taylor, who won a whopping $5,004, realized that he had matched four out of the five main numbers. The man had also managed to guess the bonus number which netted him the grand prize.

“I was shocked to see I hit the first four numbers and then I had the bonus one, and I’m like, ‘Wow, how much does this pay?” Taylor said.

According to Taylor, he likes the smaller games compared to games like the Mega Millions or Powerball simply because the payout is smaller and the chances of winning the grand prize are much more likely than one of the bigger games.

Lottery officials have explained that winning the prize for a smaller lottery game is about 1 in 30 million while those attempting to play the Powerball have about 1 in 300 million chance of winning the top prize.

Taylor said that he prefers the Lucky for Life game because it pays out smaller prizes per game than any other lottery drawing. The $2 lottery game has a top prize being $1,000 a day for life for a total of $365,000 a year and the second place prize is $25,000 a year for life according to the Ohio Lottery.
