Travis Kelce shows support for Taylor Swift ahead of VMAs as NFL star misses event

Travis Kelce expressed support for Taylor Swift ahead of the MTV Video Music Awards even as the Kansas City Chiefs star won’t be in attendance.

Swift will attend the MTV VMAs without Travis Kelce on Wednesday night as she is nominated for 12 different honors - the most out of all artists involved. She continues to dominate the music scene and her "Eras Tour" success has made her the talking point of the past year.

On Wednesday, Swift could surpass Beyonce’s record of 25 solo VMA wins. But she may make history without her beau standing beside her, as he cannot be in New York given the Chiefs are preparing to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and will be practicing throughout the week.

Regardless, Kelce is still hopeful Swift is going to collect a bunch of awards. Speaking on the latest episode of the “New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce” podcast, the 34-year-old addressed the awards gala.

“Hopefully Taylor can walk away with a few, she’s nominated for about ten of those things tonight,” Kelce said about the awards, which take place at Long Island's UBS Arena. “Hopefully she can walk away with some moon men. Those are always one of the cooler trophies. The space guys.”

Kelce went on to describe the award to his brother Jason, saying: “It’s the big silver moon guy with the American flag I think.”

“Yes, we landed on the moon!” Jason replied. “It’s the MTV flag but that’s a really cool award. Let’s go Tay, come on Tay!”

“Stay on top,” Travis added. “Wishing everybody the best though.”

“Unless you’re up against Tay then I hope lo-,” Jason chimed in before the pair burst into laughter.

Kelce has already been hanging out with Swift in New York after flying out of Kansas City on Friday morning, as the Chiefs began the NFL season with a win over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. Kelce and Swift were joined by Patrick and Brittany Mahomes , enjoying a double date while watching the U.S. Open final.

This is not the first time Kelce has been denied the chance to support Swift. At the Grammys in February, the tight end skipped the ceremony as the Chiefs had just flown to Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII.

“I wish I could go support Taylor at the Grammys, and watch her win every single award that she’s nominated for,” Kelce said during an interview on "The Pat McAfee Show" at the time. “But I think I’ve got practice on Sunday. Unfortunately, I’ve gotta get ready for this big old Super Bowl that we’ve got in a week.”
