Police have arrested a Kentucky man and charged him with the murder of his son after a confession revealed he woke up to find his tires slashed and decided to put his adult son "out of his misery."

Police in Lincoln County said, "He got upset and went to the outbuilding where the victim was staying. When the victim opened the door, the above shot the victim with a handgun," the citation detailed. "After the victim fell, he shot again another 2-3 times to make sure he was dead."

According to law enforcement, officers responded to reports of gunfire and were informed by Jack McNew upon their arrival that he had "shot his son," who was identified as "Jackie McNew."

McNew justified his actions to authorities , saying he "didn't want anyone to see his son acting like this. He put him out of his misery."

"McNew called 911 but did not offer aid because 'he knew in his heart that the victim was dead,'" the police citation noted. Investigators discovered multiple shell casings both inside and outside the outbuilding.

Following the incident, McNew was apprehended and faces charges of first-degree burglary and murder. The son was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

The incident unfolded when 72-year-old Jack McNew discovered all his vehicle tires had been slashed. He proceeded to the outbuilding where his son resided, knocked on the door, and upon opening, he fatally shot his son.

This account was provided by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, which arrived at the scene around 12:06 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, following a call from the father confessing to shooting his son, Jackie McNew.

He is currently held at the Pulaski County Detention Center.

  • Elsewhere in Kentucky, Rebecca Searcy, 41, was arrested after a man’s decomposing body was discovered wrapped in a shower curtain inside an apartment - but she wasn’t charged with his death after giving police a sad reason for her crime.

The grim discovery was made by Louisville police on August 26, following a report of a corpse found within an apartment. "A search warrant was executed on the apartment and the victim was found to be wrapped in a shower curtain, plastic and another curtain was placed on top of him," stated the police in a citation.

The investigation led authorities to a 41-year-old woman, who was interviewed by police on September 3. The woman informed investigators that the victim had overdosed in the apartment.

She confessed to wrapping the body and leaving without alerting the police, as per the citation. Now, Searcy is facing charges that include abuse of a corpse. "The victim was found to be in advanced stages of decomposition," said police.
