It's officially candle season , so you may want to get cozy with a book and a blanket and watch the flame dance around.

However, the cost of designer candles can hit the wallet hard, so if you're going to treat yourself to one, you'll want to make sure it burns correctly so you're not burning money .

If your candle starts 'tunneling', which means it's only burning down the middle and not at the sides, you're essentially throwing away wax.

Fear not, though, as there are ways to fix this calamity. Home interior expert @housebeautiful took to TikTok to share some "candle tips you need to know" from @sircandleman , promising to revolutionize your candle experience.

Their video post was straightforward: "You pay good money , don't waste the wax".

According to him, before lighting up, always trim the wick to a quarter of an inch to prevent the rim from becoming smoky and unsightly. He pointed out that an untrimmed wick can cause the flame to become "The flame gets too hot or too smoky".

To avoid tunneling, he advised letting the wax melt "all the way to the edge" for an even burn.

For those who've already faced the issue of "wasting wax" but want to salvage their candle, he suggested using a "candle lamp warmer" to melt and level out the wax.

"This will melt it down, even it out, and it'll be good like new", he promised. Once it "solidifies [it will be] even", ensuring a proper burn in future uses saving all that precious wax.

In the comments section, one user hailed these as the "best tips" for budding candle enthusiasts. "What if I don't have a candle lamp warmer though? ", queried one user, to which another candle aficionado suggested popping their candles in the oven "on super low" to get the same result.

One woman also vented her frustration, saying: "My husband leaves matches in the candle, never trims the wick, this is grounds for divorce ".
