A Texas father has been arrested for allegedly attacking a 10-year-old classmate of his son after egging on his own two young sons to 'fight' two other children .
The arrest warrant, issued by San Antonio police, reveals that 44-year-old Ruben Duron Jr. allegedly forced his two sons, aged 10 and 9, to fight with two of their classmates on Tuesday afternoon, just a block away from Hot Wells Middle School.
Duron reportedly drove his truck to the area, and his two children popped out. As the children confronted each other, Duron jumped out of the truck and reportedly smashed the 10-year-old into a wood fence post, before pulling out a knife and threatening the child and bystanders.
According to police records, the boy recounted walking home with his 9-year-old brother and 8-year-old sister when Duron approached them. The boy's narrative aligns with the witness's account, who added that Duran hurled racial slurs at the three siblings, as stated in the arrest warrant.
A witness waiting to pick up his daughter from the middle school said that they were the one who initially reported something suspicious to the San Antonio ISD police. The witness, also a victim in this case, observed a pickup truck slowly following three children as they walked home from school. They thought it was a potential kidnapping, so they kept an eye out on the truck.
But instead, two young boys suddenly jumped out of the vehicle. Moments before, Duron had been heard instructing his sons to fight the other boys, as per the arrest warrant, seen by local outlet Ken 5 .
One of the children, a 10-year-old, said he didn't want to fight. However, Duron allegedly coerced his sons into starting the fight. The arrest warrant further states that Duron exited the truck shortly after, grabbed his son's 10-year-old classmate, and "slammed his head into a wooden fence post of the residence."
A witness attempted to intervene as the violent scene unfolded, according to police statements. Authorities report that Duron then pulled out a knife, distanced himself from the child, and threatened the intervening party to "shut up."
He allegedly pursued the witness to his car, cautioning him "to not get in his business" before threatening: "Do you want problems? Do you want me to kill you?" Duron is said to have fled the scene with his two sons shortly after.
Upon interviewing the 10-year-old victim, detectives found him "crying, visibly shaken, and had a wound about 2 inches in length." The young boy told detectives that he feared the man was going to "murder him" and identified the man as the father of his classmates.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Duron was apprehended late Tuesday night and is facing two counts of aggravated assault.
