Tennesse Titans coach erupts at Will Levis after quarterback fails to learn lesson

Will Levis had to face an angry Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan after another wild decision from the quarterback handed the New York Jets possession of the ball.

The Titans were in the red zone and facing a third and goal against the Jets in the second quarter, and Levis scrambled to get a look at the end zone. While facing pressure the second-year quarterback attempted to toss the ball to running back Tyjae Spears who was to his left behind the line of scrimmage.

It was a risky play, especially as Spears had a long way to go and a fourth down was inevitable. The Titans were also leading by seven and could have made it a two-possession game with a field goal, but instead, they lost possession of the ball as Spears fumbled it.

The ball was recovered by Jets linebacker Quincy Williams, and as Levis left the field Callahan was seen shouting in his direction: "Hey, what the f--- are you doing?" To make matters worse the Jets went on to win the game, meaning that direct Levis mistakes have led to both defeats to start the season.

It was a strange play by Levis, especially as he made a similar mistake last week after the Titans collapsed against the Chicago Bears. The Titans were cruising against the Bears in Week 1 and led by 17 points, but Chicago replied with 24 unanswered points.

Levis was feeling the pressure in the fourth quarter of that game, but the Titans were still leading 17-16 when he had possession of the ball. On a third and eight in Titans territory, the quarterback faced heavy pressure, and instead of accepting a sack he attempted to throw the ball out of bounds.

The quarterback was off balance and on his way down, so his toss wasn't high enough to safely go out of bounds. It was intercepted by Tyrique Stevenson who scored a pick-6 with a 43-yard return and won the game for the Bears.

Levis has faced criticism this week for his game-losing antics, but ahead of the Week 2 clash against the Jets, he responded by saying he is a good quarterback and deserves to be where he is. "There have been times where a game like that would have lingered for days, weeks, and really just kept getting to me," Levis said.

"But I didn't lose sleep Sunday night. I know that I'm a good quarterback in this league, and obviously, there are a lot of things to get better on. But watching that tape, I still have that confidence and knowing it's a fluke play that I can definitely learn from.

"I still have all the confidence in the world in this team and everything. Just have to come to work the same way regardless of what happens."
