The Traitors brought home an incredible win at the 76th Emmy Awards as it beat out legendary reality show RuPaul's Drag Race for the Outstanding Reality Competition Program Award.

After a year of many Emmy wins, the famous drag show race faced an unexpected loss as The Traitors bagged the win for the coveted reality TV category. This comes as RuPaul's Drag Race has previously won 27 Primetime Emmy Awards since the show's start back in 2009. And now, The Traitors is having their moment in the spotlight as the show beat out RuPaul as well as The Amazing Race, Top Chef, and The Voice.

The Traitors is a hit Peacock series that follows 20 of America's most cunning contestants, featuring both celebrities and everyday Americans, as they face off in the ultimate murder mystery game. The Traitors have been on for three seasons and since acquired a strong fanbase who are hyped to celebrate the big win.

  • As host Alan Cummings took the stage to accept the award, he said: "We are so grateful because we’re a new show, and when you like something, you tend to stick to it, so we appreciate it all the more."

As Cummings took on the red carpet he also teased the upcoming season of the reality show. In an interview with Live from E! Emmys , the beloved host said: "It's brutal. Big time brutal — and what I love about this is that some of the people, like the biggest set of stars in it, go out really quickly." He then went on to add: "And what happens on this, I can't really say, of course, but it's a bloodbath, and then it gets really lovely."

This isn’t the first Emmys to air in 2024, but the second one. Due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes of the summer of 2023, the 75th Emmys were pushed back from September until January 15, 2024, on Fox. Now that Emmys schedule is back to normal, this year’s event is airing when it’s supposed to be. Hosting the 2024 Emmys is Hollywood legend Eugene Levy and his son Dan Levy.

"For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough," Eugene and Dan said in a statement in August.
