WNBA told Dallas Wings star Teaira McCowan should be booted out of league after waiting in tunnel

WNBA fans have called for Dallas Wings star Teaira McCowan to be banned from the league after she was involved in an altercation with Aliyah Boston .

Tensions reached boiling point during Dallas’ narrow defeat against the Indiana Fever as the Caitlin Clark -inspired Fever won 110-109. But a fracas in the fourth quarter has left a cloud over the WNBA contest when McCowan and Boston came together.

McCowan got involved in a furious exchange with Boston as she took issue with the Fever center holding her during play. The 27-year-old towered over Boston as she squared up to the Fever star, eventually shoving her in the back as the former South Carolina starlet attempted to walk away.

After receiving the shove, Boston turned to stare down McCowan but walked away again as the officials stepped in to separate the pair. Her Indiana teammates attempted to step in against McCowan, who was subsequently given another technical and ejected. Having already received one earlier in the game for a thumbs-down gesture earlier.

McCowan’s ejection came with just 1.9 seconds on the clock. After she left the court, she was then spotted standing in the tunnel, whether waiting to see out the final seconds of the match or in an attempt to continue her feud with Boston.

The incident was McCowan’s seventh technical foul of the season, meaning she will miss the Wings’ final game of the season against Las Vegas Aces on Thursday through suspension after they failed to qualify for the WNBA Playoffs.

It appears to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for some fans with McCowan as fans began to call for her to be banned by the league. “She should be out of WNBA. Have watched many past videos of this unhinged player hurting others & disrespecting the WNBA,” one furious supporter said.

"McCowan should be banned from the league. Out of control," a second user said. “She looks goofy asl embarrassing,” a third slammed seeing her reaction standing in the tunnel. “Gotta be the most selfish player in the league,” moaned a comment highlighting her letting her team down again.

“I feel a lot of second hand embarrassment… 1.9 second and 1 possession game. You was duckin them cameras now you waving very demure after throwin a game over what? A post up or box out is silly …. They must want the first round draft pick so they can drop her,” another comment slammed, convinced that Dallas must be near breaking point with McCowan’s disciplinary issues.

Despite the backlash, there has inevitably been sections of the WNBA fan base who have championed her behavior, arguing that any publicity is good publicity to enhance the league’s reputation.

“The way McCowan lurked in the shadows, so badass! Love her or hate her, that’s entertainment!” One comment argued. “No matter what anyone says- this kind of stuff grows the sport- it entertaining and spicy I loved it personally because I like when player show me their passion,” a second added in agreement.
