A six-year-old student brought a revolver in their bookbag to an elementary school in Orange, Virginia. Authorities said there is no evidence that the child intended to use the weapon.

While sorting out items from a late student's bookbag on Monday afternoon, an instructional assistant at the Orange Elementary School found the firearm . The staff member immediately notified the administration and the school resource officer, according to Orange County Sheriff Jason C Smith.

Sheriff Smith revealed that the young pupil brought a Cowboy-style Heritage Rough Rider single-action, .22-caliber revolver to class.

There was no sign the child meant to use the gun . While no arrests were reported, the investigation continues, stated Smith.

The community, disheartened by such distressing developments, received words of empathy from Smith: "This situation is very unfortunate and heartbreaking to this community," he expressed. "We will get through this together. Situations like these remind us of how fortunate and thankful we are that nothing serious happened. Show your children lots of love and hold them tight! ".

Tensions are still high following a distressing January 2023 event, where a six-year-old Virginia pupil brought a handgun to school , resulting in the shooting and critical injury of a first grade teacher in Newport News.
