Dancing with the Stars fans 'tear up' after Olympic medalist Ilona Maher's performance

Dancing with the Stars premiered and fans are rooting for their favorites .

Viewers at home were introduced to 13 new contestants on season 33 of the dancing competition. NBA player Dwight Howard, 90201 star Tori Spelling, The Traitors star Phaedra Parks , Family Matters star Reginald VelJohnson, former NFL star Danny Amendola, Disney star Chandler Kinney, Actor Eric Roberts, former Sports Illustrated model Brooks Nader, The Bachelorette's Jenn Tran , The Bachelor's Joey Graziadei , Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik and Olympic rugby medalist Ilona Maher made their debut on Tuesday, September 17.

The contestants chose their own song for the premiere with Ilona making many emotional with her cha-cha performance with dance pro Alan Bersten to Going Out Tonight by Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Viewers at home got to see Ilona open up to Ilona dance partner on why she decided to compete on the show. She said that she's a "big, muscular" woman but also feels "beautiful and feminine" and because she grew up not being confident, Ilona wanted to make it easier for young girls to love their body.

The judges saw Ilona's nerves throughout her performance but were also impressed with it and enjoyed watching her take on the stage. Derek Hough wanted to see a little more of her "charismatic and fun" side in her dance. They all reassured her that she did a great job.

Viewers at home were impressed with Ilona and also saw her nerves. Some were even tearing up during the performance because of it's impact. One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: "lona’s dance made me cry and I have no idea whyyyy." Another person wrote: "Not me tearing up for @ilona_maher she is amazing, beautiful inside and out!" A third person wrote: "OK ILONA I LOVE THE ENERGY! but there’s so much room for improvement that i believe she will excel!!! her attitude is making me so happy i love her." A fourth wrote: "would actually do anything for ilona and alan. i love this partnership so much."

Julianne Hough, one of the hosts of the show, read Ilona and Alan their score and they received a six from all three judges, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek.
