AC Milan Christian Pulisic has admitted that it's "great for us" that Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the new head coach of the United States men's national team.

The former Chelsea attacker formed part of the Stars and Stripes team which failed to get out the group at Copa America under previous incumbent Gregg Berhalter. The American oversaw one win and two losses at the tournament and paid for their underwhelming performance with his job.

However, Pochettino will now be tasked with overseeing a new era for the country as he looks to take the U.S. into the next Pochettino on home soil. Now, national talisman Pulisic has spoken of his excitement as he looks forward to this next chapter under the Argentine.

Speaking on CBS, the man known to fans as "Captain America" addressed the new appointment in glowing terms, saying: "It's great for us. To have someone as experienced as him coming in. We have the talent and now it's time to hopefully have a coach who's going to take us to the next level."

Results earlier this month under interim coach Mikey Varas saw the team lose Canada at home - a the first time since way back in 1957 - alongside a draw versus New Zealand. Still, MLS is confident that he can help improve the nation's fortunes in the coming months as he said: "We were watching the [recent international] games, and it's difficult to judge because I think we cannot be unfair in the way that we are going to judge.

"The circumstances are so special after the Copa America. The situation wasn't good for the players to manage in the last two games. But the most important thing is to see the potential that we have. [We have] very good players.

"I think [we'll] send the message to everyone, not only the players that were involved in the last few games, not only the players that play in Europe or the players that play here in USA and then MLS. Every single player that is around the world, we are going to try to pay attention and from now, they have the door open."

"It's all about their performance and try to show that they are capable to join the national team. I think that is one of our first ideas that we want to translate to our players," he continued. "They need to understand that if they perform, we are going to be there watching."

The ex- Tottenham boss added: "We are always positive. I think we have very talented players. I think, of course, that confidence is a little bit low after the Copa America. I think we are going to work on recovery. We have very good professionals - not only in tactics or in physical fitness - but in psychology that we are going to work with to create the right pattern to follow, to recover the confidence and start to perform together.'

"I see a group of players full of talent and potential, and together, we're going to build something special that the whole nation can be proud of."

USSF sporting director Matt Crocker also spoke of his excitement at luring the one-time Paris Saint-Germain coach, saying in a statement: "Mauricio is a serial winner with a deep passion for player development and a proven ability to build cohesive and competitive teams.

"His track record speaks for itself, and I am confident that he is the right choice to harness the immense potential within our talented squad. We are thrilled to have Mauricio on board as we embark on this exciting journey to achieve success on the global stage."
