3-year-old leaves Alabama daycare unnoticed and heads to Walmart to buy Hot Wheels and snacks

A mother is distraught after her toddler wandered away from his day care into a nearby store with no one noticing.

Jasmine Najee said her three-year-old son Sir Paxton somehow wandered away from the Kiddie Care Learning Center in Alabama on Tuesday. “He had asked to potty, and they told him to go by himself,” she told 14 News . The door adjacent to the potty led to the playground, and the toddler went out the back door and somehow managed to climb over a six foot fence.

The unsupervised 3-year-old ended up crossing the street and entering a Walmart Neighborhood Market after escaping the day care, his mother tearfully recalled. Sir Paxton was able to walk around the store for about 20 to 25 minutes before an employee, who happened to be a family friend, spotted him heading to check out with a Hot Wheels toy and snacks in hand.

Surveillance cameras showed that Sir Paxton left the day care at 4:07 p.m., according to Najee. And while police were notified about the situation at about 4:30 p.m., Najee said she wasn’t notified about what had happened from the day care until about 5 p.m.

"Why didn't you call me? Why didn't you call authorities?" Najee said. She claims that the day care tried to cover their tracks instead of inquiring about her son's wellbeing.

"When the day care arrived to the establishment the first question was: 'what is going to happen to me?' and they requested the police not be called, not 'is he okay? is he harmed?'"

Despite her frustration, Najee is thankful that her son was not injured in the ordeal. “We could be grieving his death,” she said. But she is upset after the day care sent out an email she says placed the blame for the incident on the toddler.

"Some form of neglect did happen," she said. "Some form of not being accountable did happen, and you sent out an email and pretty much you're holding my three-year-old accountable for wanting to go to Walmart to get snacks and Hot Wheels but he shouldn't be able to act on it."

Kiddie Care Learning Center owner Kishia Saffold has apologized for what happened that day.“I am deeply sorry, to the child in our care, the parents, and those affected by this situation,” Saffold said. “As the director and owner, I take full responsibility for our failure to ensure the safety of those in our care - a duty I’ve always held as my highest priority.” Saffold said security measures will also be updated.

Ok but this kid's name is Sir Paxton. Ngl, that's as far as I've read (I'm gonna read it all but the name just got me). SIR PAXTON! This kid will NEVER be boring, basic or without some damn flair. Not with that name. All BS and name kudos aside, from a chick that at 4 years old slipped out of daycare and went way WAY further without dying (idfk how though!).... glad the little dude is unscathed. ❤️
