Kate Mansi praises Kelly Monaco as she confirms actress' exit from General Hospital

Producers confirmed that Kelly Monaco would be leaving General Hospital , but left the rest of the details a bit uncertain.

Fans were left to speculate how the writers would give her beloved character, Sam McCall, the axe from the soap opera . Kate Mansi, who plays Kristina Corinthos-Davis , across form Kelly only reiterated the sad news that Kelly would be leaving the General Hospital family.

She told Michael Fairman TV : "Kelly is finishing out, and I do have some scenes with Kelly. Working with her has been great. I love Kelly Monaco, and she was nothing but warm and welcoming when I got on. I think she's super-talented and going to go on to do really great things."

So, it's still unclear where the writers are going with all this, but they have set up some potential outs for Sam. For example, she might be headed for a jump into the river in an effort to prove Alexis' innocence. Her mother previously tossed a gun into the waterway which points toward Alexis being the murderer. Sam is determined to show that she did not kill John Cates and the gun should indicate that it wasn't fired that night.

Sam was adamant that the dive was something she was afraid of. However, Dante believes otherwise. He warned her that a plunge could be risky. This wouldn't be the first time the character was willing to go into the depths of Port Charles' river. In 2012, she suited up in scuba gear as she was on the search for her love interest, Jason Morgan, who was shot and kicked into the water.

While this potential plot point would certainly have a dramatic effect on the rest of the story, it's not an official plan, so there are definitely other ways the writers could kill her off.

As Sam's time on the show comes to an end, fans are applauding her final moves. Sam confronted Carly , pleading with her to come clean to exonerate her mother. Sam is convinced that Carly and Sonny didn't share a tryst in Tracey's room when John Cates met his untimely end. The conversation ended with Sam telling Carly that she had asked her son's father to risk his life and now Sam wanted something in return - honesty, because it was the right thing to do.
