A woman was left astonished when she went to her local bookstore in search of a popular fantasy series and unexpectedly encountered the author near the shelves.

Megan Moeai , known online as 'moeai.art,' frequently shares her gothic style and artwork. When she's not painting, the Salt Lake City, Utah , artist enjoys relaxing with a good book.

Recently, she visited her local Barnes & Noble to find Mistborn, the first novel in a seven-book fantasy series by Brandon Sanderson. However, she had trouble locating the books, as they had been moved from their usual spot.

Her frustration turned to surprise when she realized the man standing by the empty shelf was none other than Sanderson himself. A video, which has since garnered more than 924,000 likes, captured the heartwarming moment. She said: "I'm not even kidding. I was literally here looking for your books and I couldn't find them."

Sanderson replied: "The shelf is empty because the bookstore knew I was coming so they pulled them all off. Now there's this conspicuous hole in the wall. Do you want a paperback?" Laughing, she replied, "That's so funny. I was like, who's that in front of...? I need those books!"

Megan asked for a copy of the first book, and Sanderson signed it for her, calling it a "good place to start" and expressing his hope that she enjoys it.

She later posted the clip online, writing: "When you're shopping for the Mistborn series at your local Barnes &Noble and just casually run into the legend himself. I need BookTok to validate how amazing this was because whaaaaat. He was so nice too."

TikTok users were charmed by the encounter, with many commenting on how friendly Sanderson seemed. One user wrote: "He was so excited to sign a book for you. He is an absolute gem. I adore him."

Another added:"I don't even know what Mistborn is but I'm gonna read it now cos he nice," while a third noted: "He was so cutely red lol."

Meanwhile, a fourth user commented: "I do not know this author, I never read one of his books, but after this video, I'm going to buy Mistborn and read it."
