Prince William shares sweet reason why he didn't attend the Paris Summer Olympics

Prince William was noticeably absent from cheering on Team Great Britain at the Paris Olympics this summer.

The man next in line for the British throne didn't attend the games for an emotional reason, which he shared when he visited a community pool in Birtley, England as a way to highlight the Royal Foundation's commitment to making swimming accessible for Brits. William spoke to Olympic and Paralympic swimmers at the event.

The Prince of Wales told them he didn't go to Paris because he was worried about bringing home COVID-19 to his wife, Kate Middleton , who recently completed her chemotherapy treatment . Though he wasn't there in person, he claimed to be "glued" to the television while cheering his homeland on.

While at the community pool, William spoke to Olympians Adam Peaty and Tom Dean, and Paralympians Maisie Summers-Newton, and Louise Fiddes. Tom asked William if he went to the Olympics, to which the prince replied in the negative and explained why.

"No, I was so keen to come but I have to say after reading someone’s interview about COVID," William said as he looked at Adam, who actually tested positive for COVID during the Olympics.

William continued: "I decided, because my wife was obviously having chemo, that I didn’t want to risk bringing COVID home, so Adam very kindly reminded me that that was still a thing! But we watched the whole thing. We were glued to it every day."

The prince doted on his wife during the initial stages of her recovery. He cleared his schedule of official visits and meetings and stepped back from his royal duties to take care of Kate and their children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

The couple, who married in 2011, are reportedly "like a couple of newlyweds again" after Kate's chemotherapy this year. A source told Heat Magazine: "The constant hugs, kisses and general chemistry between them is palpable and incredible to witness. They're utterly inseparable. They're truly each other’s heroes."

After Kate's chemo ended, she released a video statement. In it, she said: "My path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes."
