Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia announce crossover episode

Fans of the Philadelphia-based comedies Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are in for a treat as a crossover episode is reportedly on the horizon.

The anticipated crossover is set to air during the fourth season of Abbott Elementary , which will be available to US viewers later this month.

While it remains unclear how the two popular comedy series, known for their distinct tones, will merge, fans are excited about the prospect.

Abbott Elementary is recognized for its warm, heartfelt humor and confessional camera style, reminiscent of past NBC shows like Parks and Recreation.

On the other hand, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is known for its dark humor and sinister undertones, reports the Mirror .

Despite their differences, it appears that both shows have found common ground, as suggested by It's Always Sunny creator Rob McElhenney's recent Instagram post.

McElhenney, also known for his role in Welcome to Wrexham alongside Ryan Reynolds, shared a photo with co-star Charlie Day and Abbott creator Quinta Brunson on what seemed to be the Warner Bros. lot.

"Oh. Hello," his cryptic picture caption read, leaving fans speculating about the upcoming crossover.

He also shared another photo with his 1.8 million Instagram followers featuring fellow Sunny star Danny DeVito and Abbott stars Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis.

There's been a buzz for months that the brains behind the hit series could be joining forces; back in July at Comic-Con, Brunson hinted that season 4 of Abbott might witness an epic crossover episode.

Both Philly-based shows also sit comfortably in Disney 's stable, with Abbott airing on ABC and Sunny running on FX.

Brunson spilled the beans, as she teased: "We will be doing an interesting crossover this season ... but I'm not going to tell you with who or with what or where or when or how."

She also upped the ante with the bold claim: "But it's really exciting, and I think it'll change television as we know it."

Abbott Elementary season 4 premieres Wednesday, October 9 at 9:30 pm on ABC.
