Complaints from Tyrrell Hatton about the sluggish greens at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship were quickly dismissed by the event's commentators.

The LIV Golf regular has recently returned to the DP World Tour, aiming to participate in four events to maintain his membership and qualify for the Ryder Cup next year. This week's championship in Scotland is crucial as it represents the fourth event on his list.

Hatton kicked off the tournament with a bang, scoring an impressive seven-under-par 65, putting him in contention to win the title for the third time.

  • Tommy Fleetwood showed touch of class with assessment of Brooks Koepka's LIV Golf move
  • Hatton began at Carnoustie but shifted to Kingsbarns for his second round, where he continued his strong performance. However, his comments on the greens' speed during Friday's game stirred some controversy.

After missing a birdie putt and settling for par at the tenth hole, he remarked, "Oh they're so slow. Why? Cut them..." Contradicting Hatton's irritation, Sky Sports commentator Nick Dougherty stated, "No... you know why they don't cut them," suggesting that there was a reason behind the choice of green speed.

"Three rounds of golf, same pins, if they cut them quick and they get a day where it gets up to 20, 30mph winds, then they can become un-puttable. He knows that, it's just a bit of frustration boiling over."

Dame Laura Davies, sharing her thoughts right after, remarked, "That's put him in his place," referring to Dougherty's comments about the LIV star's outburst. Despite the tension, Hatton had a successful round, shooting a four-under 68 at the Scottish course, bringing him to 11-under for the event.

As Saturday's third round at St Andrews looms, Hatton finds himself trailing clubhouse leaders Cameron John and Nicolas Colsaerts by four strokes. The tournament features 14 LIV golfers, suggesting a sense of unity in the sport at the iconic venue.

The Pro-Am event's amateur side is also making headlines with Jay Monahan and Yasir Al-Rumayyan, key figures in PGA Tour and LIV Golf discussions, participating. Not only are both men playing, but Tour commissioner Monahan and LIV chairman Al-Rumayyan were notably paired in the first round with their professional counterparts, Billy Horschel and Dean Burmester.

All Hatton does is whine and complain.
