Donna Kelce opens up on sacrifice she made in her marriage for Travis and Jason Kelce

Donna Kelce, mother of NFL legends Travis and Jason , has revealed that she stayed together with her ex-husband for the sake of their future football star children .

The game's most famous sibling duo are famously close, maintaining the bond they had as youngsters growing up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio , into adulthood. The pair went on to play for rival teams in the NFL, even coming up against each other in the Super Bowl back in the 2022 season.

Elder brother Jason already triumphed in the showpiece in 2017 but it was Travis who was celebrating as they faced off in the NFL's most storied game - with the Kansas City Chiefs earning a 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles . Now, the duo's mom has opened up on the steps she took to ensure that the siblings enjoyed a "normal" childhood during their formative years.

Speaking as part of her Glamour Women of the Year cover story, the 71-year-old recalled how she and former spouse Ed Kelce stayed together while their sons were young - despite issues in their relationship. She said: "My husband and I knew that our marriage was not working, but we stayed together for the kids.

"Ours was a very friendly relationship. So, we could do that and make sure that their life was normal as possible," the former bank executive continued as she opened up on her former marriage. "But in that one respect, I did stand still for several years until I could move on on my own."

"I was a commercial banker for a bank in several different states. I wanted to get ahead. I worked really, really hard. I was a major breadwinner in the family. And I think it’s important for kids to see that a woman can do whatever she wants, but I did stand still, too."

Going into detail about her approach to motherhood, she added: "It’s so much easier to just go to work. but raising children, when they’re totally dependent on you and you’re trying to do the best you can with the limited resources that you have, it’s the most daunting task I’ve ever had to do.”

Previous to this, Donna spoke candidly about bringing up her sons alongside ex-husband Ed, saying on The Martha Stewart Podcast back in May: "We worked together as a team and it's very, very difficult to raise children on your own. We decided that we would be married throughout the entire time that the kids were in the house, and that's the way it worked out."

Speaking on Amazon Prime's "Kelce", Travis previously opened up on noticing issues in his parents' marriage, explaining: "I started making those connections when I was in middle school and realized they were probably gonna split. But they stayed together for me and Jason's benefit, I believe."
