WNBA reporters rush to clarify Rookie of the Year votes after Angel Reese call

Indiana Fever's guard, Caitlin Clark, nearly swept the board by securing 66 out of 67 votes to win the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

Unlike other sports, there is no requirement for writers to disclose their votes. Many speculated that Clark would receive all 67 votes after averaging an impressive 19.2 points, a league-leading 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game.

The lone first-place vote went to Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese . The former LSU star is quite accomplished herself: Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds before a wrist injury cut her season short.

But those who voted have rushed to clarify they were not the one to vote for Reese instead of Clark. Many have questioned how Clark was not the unanimous selection, with various theories over who may have voted for Reese and why.

Connecticut Sun reporter Terrike Forster-Brasby was quick to clarify she wasn't the one who didn't vote for Clark. "Just so we're clear... it wasn't me," she posted on Twitter.

"I voted for CC. So don't blow me up or call me a hater 'cause IT WASNT TERRIKE."

National reporter Khristina Williams echoed similar sentiments: "'I had Caitlin Clark on my ballot for Rookie of the Year."

Clark's teammate Aliyah Boston unanimously won the Rookie of the Year last season with less impressive stats, although she did not face as tough competition as Reese.

Other unanimous WNBA rookie winners include A'ja Wilson for the Las Vegas Aces in 2018, Elne Delle Donne for the Chicago Sky in 2013, and Tina Charles for the Connecticut Sun in 2010.

ESPN analyst Andraya Carter commented on a recent WNBA preview show: "If you were the person who had that one vote, you should be able to stand on it, and we should know who you are,".

Clark, who was unanimously named the Associated Press Rookie of the Year back in late September, skirted any mention of the vote when sharing her thoughts on the honor.

"I am incredibly honored to be named Rookie of the Year, but more than that, I am grateful to everyone that supported me throughout this past season -- my family and friends, my teammates, the Fever organization and everyone that cheered us on all season. I am so proud of what we accomplished and so excited for what the future holds," said Clark in a heartfelt statement.

"The fun part is I feel like I'm just scratching the surface. I know I want to help this franchise get even better, help my teammates get even better, be better for my teammates. I know there's a lot of room for me to continue to improve, so that's what excites me the most."

Derek Jeter got screwed the same way. He deserved a unanimous vote for the Hall of Fame. But one jackass against him.
