Pregnant Ohio teen mom, 16, blasted in stomach as 'boyfriend with violent past claims she shot herself'

The mother of a pregnant teenager killed in a supposed accidental shooting later told police she was a victim of domestic violence.

Carlie Frizzell, 16, died on Wednesday night following an "accidental" shooting on the 500 block of South Eureka Avenue, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Then a call came in from a woman who said she was the mother of the dead teen.

She told the 911 dispatcher that she heard the shooting was ruled an accident and wanted to tell authorities that Frizzell was pregnant and had a history of being abused. "Her boyfriend, he also knows how to handle guns," the woman said. "I don't know how this could happen." She continued: "He has a history of domestic violence , please tell them. Please."

In the initial 911 call the boyfriend, who police have not identified, told police a gun went off and Frizzell had been shot in the stomach. "The gun went off. I don't know what happened," the boyfriend said. At one point in the call things became frantic and the boyfriend could be hear yelling "please hurry" as dispatchers tried to give him instructions.

In an incident report, police described the shooting as a negligent homicide. A handgun and a shell casing were recovered from the scene. Columbus Division of Police Sgt. Joe Albert said in a statement the morning after the shooting that the initial 911 caller said the girl accidentally shot herself, but later Thursday, police said they had a suspect in her death.

Police said Thursday that they would not release the suspect's name until they could confer with the prosecutor's office about possible charges. Frizzell's family has started a fundraiser to help with funeral costs and care for her child. The teen was already the mother to a baby girl, and was described as a "great mother".

"This tragic event has broke all of our hearts while it was an accident it hasn’t made it any easier," her sister wrote. "Evelyn who adored her mommy so much is now without her and she’s not even 2 years old . Now we are having to get ready to bury her at just 16."
