New York Jets fire head coach Robert Saleh after Aaron Rodgers disagreement

The New York Jets have fired Robert Saleh, multiple reports have confirmed, after their loss to the Minnesota Vikings this past weekend.

Saleh has been fired from his role just five games into his fourth season with the team with a 20-36 record. The timing of the announcement will be a surprise, but does come after the head coach was seen in an awkward moment with Aaron Rodgers on the sideline.

The front office will now begin an extensive search for their new head coach, with legendary figure Bill Belichick likely to be seen as the prime target.

And while they will begin their search for their new head coach, they have already named an interim to take over for Saleh for the immediate time being, promoting defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.

It remains unclear how long Ulbrich will be in the role - whether he will stay on as interim until the 2025 season or whether the Jets will look to bring in a new head coach as soon as they can.

At various times through the first five games of the season, many have noticed Rodgers and Saleh's relationship looking fractured, with the quarterback barely acknowledging his head coach when leaving the field.

This was the case in London, where Mirror US Sports reporters had been in attendance, and had noticed Rodgers' demeanor differ from his communications with Saleh in comparison to his offensive coaches in the sideline.

In week three, Rodgers returned to the sidelines and was greeted by Saleh and rejected his hug - seemingly pushing him away. As Rodgers walked away, he continued to direct a death stare toward Saleh before finally breaking eye contact.

While Belichick will be seen as the preferred candidate by many, several head coaches with impressive resumes will be available - including Pete Carroll and Mike Vrabel. Both have led teams who had consistently made the playoffs over the past five years, being defensive-minded head coaches.

It may be the case that the Jets will prefer a defensive head coach, with no statement on Nathaniel Hackett, the team's offensive coordinator, who looks to be staying on.

I like Robert Saleh, he is a good coach. Aaron Rodger’s is an entitled asshole. His own family can’t stand him.
