October has just kicked off, signaling that it's time to embrace the Halloween vibe . While horror movie enthusiasts are game for a scare any day of the year, many gear up for their spooky film marathons as Halloween approaches .

With an overwhelming selection ranging from timeless classics to modern spins and international horrors, picking your poison can be daunting. Enter Morin Abraham, the film critic sensation on TikTok @ThatFilmDiva, who has curated a list of five Halloween flicks perfect for diverse audiences this October.

Here are her top Netflix picks for a spine-chilling Halloween.

The 2018 version of Halloween breathes new life into the original 1978 classic, paying homage to John Carpenter's iconic horror tale. Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her debut role as Laurie Strode in this fresh take, reports the Irish Star .

Abraham highlights that the 2018 version serves as a direct sequel to its 40-year-old predecessor, deliberately sidelining the sequels that followed the original.

The narrative centers on Strode as she gears up for a showdown with Michael Myers, who has broken out of the psychiatric facility four decades after his first murder spree.

She remarked: "Halloween is a staple for this time of year. Michael Myers is probably one of the biggest horror figures out there."

"I think this is a good horror movie for those who enjoy horror but maybe those who also want to get into it as well."

Abraham's next recommendation isn't just one, but two films. The Babysitter, which premiered on Netflix in 2017, and its sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, released in 2020.

The initial film revolves around Cole, a high school freshman who struggles to make friends, except for his babysitter Bee. On Halloween night, Bee agrees to babysit Cole.

Believing he's asleep, she invites her demonic cult members over, from whom Cole must escape. The film stars Samara Weaving as Bee, who has earned the title of "scream queen" due to her numerous roles in horror films, according to Abraham.

Other cast members include Jadah Lewis, Bella Thorne, Robbie Amell, and Hannah Mae Lee. This film might appeal to fans who prefer a dark comedy over something outright scary.

"This movie would be good for those who love a good horror comedy. If they enjoy horror but maybe not too much blood and gore and still want to have a fun time," she said.

The Bad Guys: Haunted Heist is another suggestion from Abraham, this time a kid-friendly option for families looking to enjoy the spooky season together. The film is a Halloween special from The Bad Guys franchise.

The original movie from Dreamworks was released in 2022, based on the children's graphic novel of the same name. It focuses on a group of criminals, composed of anthropomorphic animals, who plan to steal an amulet from a haunted mansion.

"This film recommendation is more for parents or kids, anyone who enjoyed the animated film, The Bad Guys. It's a nice Halloween short flick," Abraham shared. .

The yet-to-be-released movie, Woman of the Hour, is creating quite a buzz. Set to debut on Netflix on Oct. 18, this film marks the directorial debut of actress Anna Kendrick. The plot revolves around Cheryl Bradshaw, who encounters a notorious serial killer in the 1970s while both are contestants on a dating game show.

The chilling narrative is based on the real-life story of Rodney Alcala, who appeared on a 1978 episode of The Dating Game amidst his murder spree.

"For those who love.. anything true-crime related, this is a movie that they'll really enjoy," Abraham commented. "Even though it's listed as a crime thriller movie, it's horror in the sense that this is real life and how easily people can blend in."

Abraham had an early viewing of the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival and gave it a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. However, she refrained from revealing too many details about the film.

Time Cut, another anticipated release, will be available on Netflix from Oct. 30.

The storyline follows a teenager in 2024 who inadvertently time travels to 2003, just days before her sister was murdered by a masked killer. She embarks on a mission to save her sister without causing any disturbances in the present day.

The film features Madison Bailey, known for her breakout role in the Netflix series Outer Banks. Abraham suggests that this movie will be a hit with fans of Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Totally Killer, and even Back to the Future.
