Woman's body found in luggage near Las Vegas apartment complex prompts police investigation into 'suspicious' death

Las Vegas police are asking for the public's help after discovering a woman dead inside luggage .

On Thursday police received a call shortly after 4 a.m. after someone spotted a dead person inside a bag near an apartment complex on Spencer Street and East Reno Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman inside the luggage.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the woman as 46-year-old Kristen Avelar. "Due to the suspicious nature of her death , the LVMPD Homicide Section responded and took over the investigation," police said in a news release .

Police did not confirm Avela's cause of death. Police provided a link to a video with multiple pictures of Avela.
