Jeopardy! overhauls its game board with high-tech updates as show copies Wheel of Fortune's lead

Jeopardy! is being revamped this season, getting an update just like fellow game show Wheel of Fortune has received recently.

Although Jeopardy! isn’t getting a full remodel, the beloved program will soon be introducing a new game board. The revamped game board is going to show all of the 60 clues, six categories, and dollar amounts, all of which Jeopardy! viewers can see at home. This forthcoming game board marks the first time in years that there has been a board replacement on the show.

Along with the board adjustments, there will no longer be individual monitors, instead, there will be an electronic screen, similar to Wheel of Fortune’s upgraded puzzle board.

News of Jeopardy!’s mini-face lift was announced on the game show’s podcast Inside Jeopardy!—the audio show is hosted by Sarah Whitcomb Foss and former contestant Sam Buttrey—on Monday. Sam disclosed that initially the new game board was created for the upcoming Jeopardy! spinoff, Pop Culture Jeopardy!, but producers decided to use it for the original game show also.

“I don’t know if folks know, one of the exciting things about the Pop Culture set is the debut of the electronic board,” Sam revealed. “Yes, this was where you first got to get a look at that game board,” Foss confirmed. “No longer 36 monitors; a single, giant game board.”

Sarah added: “It will debut in syndicated Jeopardy! next week on [Monday] October 14.” In early October, fans got a sneak peek at the redone Pop Culture Jeopardy! set, which included the game board that’s also going to be used in Jeopardy! going forward.

Much of Season 41 of Jeopardy! has been filmed already, with many of the episodes being aired this season having already been taped before the yearly summer hiatus. Next Monday’s episode will be the first brand new episode that has fresh clues, and not ones written from last season.

Sarah shared on the podcast that there will now be a new Final Jeopardy! Monitor. The Final Jeopardy! monitor is where host Ken Jennings divulges the final category before leaving for the last commercial break. Unlike Jeopardy!, Pop Culture Jeopardy! doesn’t possess a Final Jeopardy! Monitor because the contestant podiums for the teams of three didn’t allow enough space for it to fit.

“I will tell you though,” Sarah expressed. “The Final Jeopardy monitor does come back in syndication, but it’s a new and improved Final Jeopardy monitor.”
