A thug who calls himself "Dr DNA" has bragged about creating a new breed of Frankenstein dogs by combining French bulldogs with Dalmatians .
Gary Hemming, who has no veterinary qualifications, sparked outrage after his intensive breeding techniques created spotty pups that are a cross between the two breeds. He claimed he is creating the animals to satisfy growing demand for "designer dogs " despite calls for this practice to stop as pups are doomed to live short lives beset by illness.
Due to the growth of unethical breeding practices, the Scottish Government has announced a major legal crackdown that will outlaw unlicensed dog breeders like Hemming.
But the 41-year-old, from Edinburgh, Scotland , claims he wants to bring a huge "wave" of new designer dogs to the market.
He claims his "Pokadot" factory has invented a "new breed" of spotted French bulldogs which he hopes to sell across the globe, according to the Daily Record . Hemming - who was previously exposed for producing genetically damaged Frankenstein pups in a BBC investigation - recently posted an online video of one miserable looking pup, with a distended belly. He claims the dog , "Mr Pokadot", will be the future of the new breed.
British Veterinary Association President Dr Elizabeth Mullineaux has told of her concern over breeders like Hemming. She said: "Vets across the UK are extremely concerned about a number of unscrupulous breeders ignoring the health and welfare of animals by cashing in on the huge demand for 'fashionable' puppy breeds that have been bred to have extreme features like excessive skin wrinkles or flat faces.
"These animals may look 'cute' or unique, but they often experience significant health problems and a lifetime of suffering. Such irresponsible breeding has been linked to unregulated dog breeding services like canine fertility clinics, which have been popping up across the country."
Hemming - who calls himself Gari Ferrari and Dr DNA on social media - referred to his Mr Pokadot pup as "the first and only velvet bigrope pokadot in the world." He added: "This boy is the future to pokadot Frenchies. He was born with a natural no tail. Yes, we used a Dalmatian to make him many generations ago, this program we have been working on for many years. And only now bringing it to the market.
"Always remember he comes from a Dalmatian bloodline. We have used our best females to correct this line and achieve what we have today. We have put so much time and money into this program. The most iconic coat pattern ever to be worn on a dog is now on a French bulldog."
In another post on Instagram, under the handle Pokadot Bullz, Ferrari wrote: "All the hard work has been done to perfect and correct the programs. We have corrected it all. - No muzzle, no tail, short legs, short back, smashed face. We have the only Dalmatian bloodline in the world. 2025 is the year of the Pokadot Frenchie in all colours and patterns, including the new shades - lemon shade and orange shade. We are in no rush with the program and plan to perfect it."
In another Instagram reel, Hemming posted: "Understanding genetics is very important. The spots are coming." Hemming peviously boasted that he had a dog worth ÂŁ1million after a French bulldog called Checkmate was born with no hair and a white head. He boasted: "Checkmate is the key to the unicorn frenchie and it's coming."
A very similar dog was advertised online soon afterwards for a few thousand pounds. Hemming first came to public attention in a BBC Scotland Disclosure documentary. He told an undercover reporter he had sold dogs for up to $250,000.
He said: "I've sold females, obviously, in the margin of between 100 and 250 (thousand pounds). Every bit of DNA in a dog, in one dog, as in colors and patterns. Like, pink comes from other breeds. Chocolate comes from other breeds, merle comes from other breeds. You can turn them pink."
Hemming bred a "merle" pattern into one pup named Gamer, which animal experts say is a genetic defect that is linked to blindness and deafness in dogs. Hemming moved into dog breeding after a life of crime. In 2018 he was jailed for 16 months for brutally attacking a taxi driver in Edinburgh, repeatedly punching him on the head and body and biting him, before robbing him of cash, bank cards and his jacket.
In 2013 he was jailed for 80 days for threatening behaviour. And in 2014, he was jailed for 16 months at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, in Wales, for glassing a man in a pub.
According to The Kennel Club, demand for French bulldogs has soared by 1,000 per cent in the past decade. Celebrity French bulldog enthusiasts include Holly Willoughby, Lady Gaga , Madonna, Hugh Jackman and Reese Witherspoon . Across Britain, they have been bred for bizarre physical characteristics, some born with completely flat faces that leave them gasping to breathe. The "big rope" rolls of skin render dogs half-blind and the hairless mutation leaves them victim to sunburn, skin cancer and other ailments.
