Aaron Rodgers has made feelings clear on New York Jets demoting Nathaniel Hackett

Aaron Rodgers has given his response to being told that his offensive coordinator and close friend Nathaniel Hackett has been demoted , with a new play-caller named.

The Jets have announced that quarterback coach and pass-game coordinator Todd Downing will be their the new playcaller for Rodgers , with Hackett to still be the offensive coordinator but not being the one to decide on the plays and in the quarterback's ear moving forward.

The shift comes after owner Woody Johnson decided to fire head coach Robert Saleh , with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich being promoted - before he made the decision to change offensive playcallers.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Ulbrich said: "This is more a byproduct of a different take on things. I’m not saying it’s a better or worse take on things by any means. Just a different take on things, a fresh approach. Ultimately, Todd will have the full say on the game plan and ultimately the plays that are called within the game."

Reporters were quick to ask Ulbrich about Rodgers' reaction to the news that his friend would be demoted, with the new interim head coach stating: "Not necessarily a shock but we all are familiar with the relationship he has with Nathaniel. He understood the decision and he was supportive of the decision."

Rodgers had named Hackett as one of the reasons he decided to join the team, with the offensive coordinator being his play-caller during his latter years with the Green Bay Packers - where he won two MVP awards in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

The legendary quarterback appeared on the Pat McAfee show had already stated that he would understand any move which Ulbrich is to make aftet the team's 2-3 start to the season.

He said: "I’m on board with whatever he decides [to do or change]. I want to do what’s best for the team. I felt like the team was a solid team. I had a relationship with Coach [Nathaniel] Hackett, obviously, and I really liked Coach Salah. I just had a lot of respect for him and it was just a reminder yesterday of how tough the business is."
