Ethel Kennedy died with a net worth valued at around $53million . The widow of Senator Robert F Kennedy died on October 10, one week after suffering a stroke in her sleep . She was 96.

Her net worth is estimated at $53million . The Kennedy family owned an estate in McLean, Virginia, known as Hickory Hill, which John and Jacqueline Kennedy purchased in 1955.

Ethel and her husband Robert bought the home after the 1956 Democratic National Convention.

The family listed the home for $25 million in 2004 and they took it off the market in late 2008. Ethel sold the home for $8.25 million in December 2009.

The Kennedy family is valued at $1.2 billion, according to Forbes. The International Business Times said the Kennedy family’s “lasting wealth is attributed to the fact that Joseph P Kennedy, who made his fortune in insider trading, tucked the money into dozens of trusts. Those trusts are managed by Joseph P. Kennedy Enterprises, the investment firm headed by Chris Kennedy.”

Ethel raised 11 children after RFK was assassinated on June 6, 1968. Her brother-in-law, President John F Kennedy , had been assassinated in Dallas, Texas , five years earlier. She remained dedicated to social causes and the family's legacy until her death.
