Jared Goff can break huge NFL record in just seven plays vs Dallas Cowboys

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff completed his final pass of Detroit's Week 3 victory over the Arizona Cardinals . A week later, Goff connected on each of his 18 passes against the Seattle Seahawks to set the single-game record for most consecutive completions.

Goff is now on the brink of another record: should he complete his first seven passes against the 3-2 Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, he will claim the mark for the most completed passes in a row.

Four quarterbacks share the current record of 25: Nick Foles, Marcus Mariota, Philip Rivers, and Ryan Tannehill. When asked if Goff's streak impacts his game plan in any way, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson seemed unconcerned.

“Not even on my thought process," he answered . "We’re playing ball.... [Goff] knows exactly what we’re looking for. He knows what the bad looks are, too."

"He knows why each play’s being called and the premier look for that play, but he also knows what could give us some issues, and so just his general awareness of how to make things right now when I’m not timing things up quite right, it’s been really impressive."

Goff wasn't even aware he set the record in Week 4. " I wasn’t sure," he said postgame . "I was trying to remember if I had an incompletion but I couldn’t quite tell. I knew I had a chance."

The Lions quarterback carved up the Seahawks ' defense for 292 yards and two touchdowns. For good measure, Goff caught a touchdown pass from receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to cap off the 42-29 victory.

To set the mark on Sunday, Goff will have to take down an underperforming Cowboys defense missing a trio of key starters in Micah Parsons, DaMarcus Lawrence, and Eric Kendricks.

However, Dallas coach Mike McCarthy announced that 2023 First-team All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland will make his season debut after missing his team's first five games following offseason foot surgery.

The 3-1 Lions sit as -3.5 road favorites over Dallas with a chance to create daylight atop the NFC playoff picture. With the usual suspects in the conference underperforming early -- namely the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles -- the Lions have a real shot at the No. 1 seed.

Goff isn't the only player going for a record in Week 6. Dating back to last season, Lions running back David Montgomery has scored rushing touchdowns in seven consecutive games.

If he manages to carry one into the endzone on Sunday, he will break a current tie will Billy Sims to set the franchise record for most consecutive games with a rushing core.
