Deion Sanders puts Pat McAfee in his place and asks 'how do you fix your mouth to say that'

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders called into ESPN's "College Gameday" to chat with Pat McAfee and company about his star cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter.

Hunter topped Mel Kiper Jr's most recent big board for the 2025 NFL Draft. The always-bombastic McAfee tried to praise the talented junior to Sanders . Before he could finish his first sentence, McAfee was interrupted. " Travis Hunter is now second favorite in the odds for the Heisman and obviously...." he said.

Sanders interjected: " And how is that. How you even fix your mouth to say that? How you even fix your mouth to say that?"

"Coach! Coach!" McAfee responded, hoping to defend himself. "Travis Hunter and second place have never gotten along," Sanders added, shaking his head.

Hunter has totalled 561 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns while forcing three turnovers on defense through the season's first five games.

Hunter's double-overtime goal-line strip of Baylor running back Dominic Richardson secured an improbably 38-31 Colorado victory back in Week 4.

He only trails Boise State's Ashton Jeanty in most Heisman projections. The junior running back has already rushed for 1031 yards and six touchdowns in just six games while averaging an astonishing 10.9 yards per carry.

"Coach, we’re going to change [the Heisman odds]," McAfee told Sanders. "We’re going to change it right now for this particular conversation. [Hunter is] behind Jeanty, obviously on pace for potentially 2000+ yards running.

"Travis Hunter is doing something that nobody has seemingly done in college football. 127 snaps a game... I think he’s one of 10 players to average over a hundred yards receiving. He locks down on the defensive side [too]."

Hunter and Sanders have Colorado on a three-game winning streak ahead of their toughest matchup of the season: a Saturday evening home clash against No. 17 Kansas State.

"What do we not know about Travis Hunter other than the fact that he’s an amazing football player and once-in-a-generation type talent," McAfee asked Sanders.

“He [doesn't] drink, he [doesn't] smoke, goes right home after practice, studies a ton of film, is one of the best human beings that I know," the Colorado coach answered.

"We have a race every Saturday morning to see who wakes up first… and he beat me this morning," Sanders continued. He was like ‘let's go coach’. Travis, he loves the darn game of football and that’s what I love about it and we don’t have to worry about what he’s going to do on Saturday because we already know."
