Sydney Sweeney has cheeky answer to Oregon mascot's 'call me back' request

Sydney Sweeney claimed to have "changed her number" after being asked by The Oregon Duck for a phone call .

The mascot for the No. 3 Oregon Ducks was feeling optimistic ahead of a major clash against the No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday evening, and crashed ESPN's "College GameDay" broadcast that morning. The Oregon Duck was seen holding a sign in the background reading "Sydney Sweeney call me back" and it instantly went viral on social media.

The image made its way back to Sweeney herself, who felt obliged to reply in an Instagram story. "Sorry. Changed my number haha," Sweeney wrote when resharing the image from the broadcast.

Sweeney has become one of the most popular actors in Hollywood, starring in movies such as "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" and "Reality". While she respectfully gave The Oregon Duck closure, it doesn't appear that a romantic comedy is on the cards after rejecting the mascot.

The Oregon Duck is one of the most popular mascots in college football, with 138,000 followers on its official X account. It was a strong start to the day for the mascot, who will be tasked with bringing the energy against the Buckeyes.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning called it his "most important game" ahead of Saturday, with the 38-year-old looking to make a major statement in his young career. "Yeah, it's the next game. Like I said, the next game is the most important game. So, certainly one we're excited about," Lanning said.

Lanning also appeared on "The Pat McAfee- Show", and teased Oregon's gameplan. "I think it’s gonna be about the most physical team. Who’s the most physical team in the trenches? It’s gonna matter who’s gonna establish the run game. Takeaways always matter in games like this. Critical situations - fourth down, (red zone) - those are gonna be really big in this game."

Both Oregon and Ohio State are 5-0 on the season, with the Ducks beating Idaho, Boise State, Oregon State, UCLA, and MI State. Oregon has been comfortable this season but has faced some close endings, with Boise State coming within three points of recording a major upset.

Things have been easy for the Buckeyes, who have beaten all of their opponents by at least 28 points this season. Ohio State has beaten Akron, WMU, Marshall, MI State, and Iowa.

After scoring 50+ points in the first two games of the season the Buckeyes offense has trended in the wrong direction, managing a season-low of 35 points against Iowa last week. It's the defense that's been flawless, something that Oregon must overcome to stand any chance of victory.
