Haason Reddick makes emergency off-field decision ahead of New York Jets meeting

The gears are in motion for pass-rusher Haason Reddick to make his long-anticipated New York Jets debut: the 30-year-old has announced he is signing with agent Drew Rosenhaus in hopes of ending his protracted holdout.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason for a conditional third-round draft pick to boost their already-stout defensive front. He was keen to tear up the one-year and $14.25 million left on his contract with a new deal.

The new deal never came. Reddick has accrued $5 million in NFL -mandated fines and forfeited $4.7 million in-game checks. His previous agency, CAA, parted ways with Reddick over the weekend .

"We look forward to working with the Jets to get this resolved as soon as possible," Rosenhaus told the Associated Press. "Haason would like to be a New York Jet for years to come, and our goal is to make that happen."

He will facilitate a meeting between Reddick and the Jets to end the holdout ahead of New York's massive Monday Night Football clash against the division-rival Buffalo Bills .

Rosenhaus, 57, has negotiated billions of dollars worth of NFL contracts over the last three decades. He currently represents NFL Pro Bowlers like Tyreek Hill , Javon Hargrave, Darius Slay, Nico Collins, and others.

Reddick is coming off two straight Pro Bowl seasons and has topped 11.0 sacks each year since 2021. He finished fourth in the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year race after posting a career-high 16.0 sacks.

ESPN Insider Adam Schefter emphasized how the move to the new agency is a sign that a deal should be coming. “I think the fact that Haason hired an agent that quickly tells you some level of interest in coming back to play," he told the Pat McAfee show.

"I think Drew, a voice [and] a new perspective, maybe that does something. Maybe he says something to Haason that registers in a different way after all this time."

Reddick has appeared at the New York Jets facility just once since the trade: on April 1 when the team officially unveiled him. Speaking during a press conference last week, owner Woody Johnson was keen to get him back in One Jets Drive.

"Haason, get in your car, drive down I-95, and come to the New York Jets," Johnson said. We can meet you and give you an escort right in the building, and you will fit right in, and you're going to love it here, and you're going to feel welcome, and you're going to accomplish great things with us."
