Bill Belichick savages Bills kicker as Peyton Manning can't help but laugh

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was back on ESPN's Manningcast as he continues to make the media rounds in his first year out of the NFL since 1974.

Fans have enjoyed seeing the normally-stoic Belichick showcase more of his personality now that he's not on the sidelines. Once instance came in the second quarter of Monday night's contest between the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets .

During a Tyler Bass extra point try for the Bills, Belichick was discussing the Jets' defense. " You know Payton we watched that on the breakdown and we saw the free safety," before watching Bass's kick sail wide-left.

"That looks my four iron, Peyton," he quipped, drawing a laugh from both Payton and Eli Manning.

Belichick has famously enjoyed golfing for years, even competing with his former quarterback Tom Brady at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Former ESPN writer Gene Wojciechowski covered one Pro-Am where the former Patriots coach faced off against then-Alabama coach Nick Saban.

"Belichick, a 16 handicap, has a wonderful short game," Wojciechowski wrote . "But he plays with all the joy of a coal miner going into the darkness. Though I did see him raise his arm and do a mini fist pump after sinking a 10-footer for par on No. 8."

The "Manningcast" is not the only show the seven-time Super-Bowl winning head coach is appearing on this season. Belichick features on a weekly podcast called "Coach with Bill Belichick" on Underdog Fantasy and helps host CW's "Inside the NFL."

Many linked Belichick to the vacant New York Jets coaching position following the team's dismissal of coach Robert Saleh . However, the former Patriots boss expressed doubts about a potential move during Monday's broadcast.

"I'm not a big Jets fan, in case you don't know that," he admitted. "I thought Coach Saleh really did a good job with this team... That's kinda what it's been there with the Jets. They've barely won over 30% in the last 10 years. The owner being the owner... ready, fire aim."

For Tyler Bass, the miss was just his seventh on 229 career extra-point attempts. He would also hook a field goal attempt in the third quarter on a windy-night in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Bills kicker missed a critical 44-yard game-tying field goal in the 2023 AFC Divisional Playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs as Buffalo fell short of the Super Bowl once again. "Ultimately, completely on me,” said Bass. I feel terrible. I love this team, man. It hurts. This one hurts bad.”

Quarterback Josh Allen was quick to defend his kicker. "I wish he wouldn’t have been put in that situation," Allen said. "You win as a team you lose as a team. One play doesn’t define a game, doesn’t define a season."
