Davante Adams completing New York Jets trade as Aaron Rodgers gets huge boost

The Las Vegas Raiders are trading Davante Adams to the New York Jets as the star wide receiver reunites with former quarterback Aaron Rodgers .

Adams has been linked with a trade away from Las Vegas for some time, with speculation stepping up after he suffered a hamstring injury. The Jets have acquired Adams in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that can become a second rounder.

Less than 24 hours after the Jets endured a disappointing 23-20 loss at home to the Buffalo Bills to lose ground in the AFC East, the franchise have made a big move. Adams is a three-time All-Pro and two-time receiving touchdowns leader, and he represents one of the best offensive weapons in football.

The trade ends Adams' stay with the Raiders after just over two years. During the 2022 offseason, Adams - frustrated with the Green Bay Packers amid contract talks with both himself and Rodgers - was dealt to Las Vegas where he signed a five-year deal worth $140 million with $65.7 million in guaranteed money.

The Raiders sent a first- and second-round pick to land Adams after the receiver spent eight seasons tormenting defenses alongside Rodgers in Green Bay. However, Adams was excited by the opportunity in Las Vegas as he linked up with his former college quarterback from Fresno State in Derek Carr.

In their first season together, Adams tallied 100 catches for 1,516 yards and a league-high 14 touchdown receptions while Carr made his first Pro Bowl since 2017. However, the Raiders finished 6-11 and benched Carr for the final two games of the season to avoid an injury guarantee on his contract.

Since then, Adams has been consistently linked with a move away from the rebuilding Raiders. The Pittsburgh Steelers , New Orleans Saints , and Bills were in the mix for Adams, but the Jets are set to complete a deal which will see him join the likes of Garrett Wilson , Allen Lazard, and Mike Williams in the receiver room.

The Raiders were likely enticed into a deal by not just the trade package, but the contractual package. The Jets have taken on Adams’ entire contract - with a cap hit of $35 million in 2025 and $36 million in 2026 - while the Raiders face no dead cap in the move.

Last month, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce liked a report on social media that the AFC West franchise were actively shopping Adams on the trade market. From there, the relationship between the receiver and the Raiders deteriorated, and while Pierce insisted Adams could return to action, he has now landed with the Jets.

The 2-4 Jets are next in action against the 4-2 Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 20.
